PORT (POINT) ISABEL LIGHTHOUSE

Location: Port Isabel, Cameron County, Texas.

Viewing: 421 East Queen Isabella Blvd., Port Isabel Lighthouse State Historical Park. Open to the public.

Brief History: From historic marker: "The beacon for the commerce of the Rio Grande; Erected by the United States Government in 1852; Extinguished during the Civil War; Discontinued, 1888, 1895; Permanently discontinued, 1905." Light is not operational.

Construction Type & Design: White conical brick tower.

Tower Height: 57 ft.

Light Type: Third order Fresenel lens. Lens has been removed.
